Infrared and far infrared rays
In physics, infrared rays (IR) are electromagnetic radiation with a frequency band in the electromagnetic spectrum lower than that of visible light.
The term means “below red” (from the Latin infra, “below”), because red is the visible colour with the lowest frequency.
They occupy the wavelength range between 0.75 μm and 1,000 μm, and the frequency band between 300 GHz and 400 THz.
Every object with a temperature above absolute zero (−273 °C) spontaneously emits radiation in this band.
As the temperature rises, the emission peak shifts further towards visible light until the object becomes incandescent.
In particular, the band occupied by far infrared rays has a wavelength between 3 μm and 1,000 μm and a frequency between 100 GHz and 300 GHz.

Far infrared in turn includes the so-called Ray of Life, or bio-infrared, with a wavelength between 4 and 14–16 μm.
We can benefit from the effect of these rays through exposure to the sun and during a session in Sauna Smarty. We notice it, for example, when in summer, exposing our body to sunlight, we feel healthier than in winter, when we go out fully dressed. However, exposure to sunlight also has drawbacks, because it includes radiation that is harmful to the skin, such as UV rays.
Sauna Smarty far infrared sauna
Using the Sauna Smarty far infrared sauna is the most effective way to enjoy all the benefits of far infrared rays without the drawbacks of sunlight.
They penetrate the body to a depth of about 45 mm, bring a pleasant warmth and allow it to be absorbed in the best way.
They are produced by the combined action of carbon fibre and tourmaline, jade and germanium stones.
These stones also emit negative ions, which have a positive, relaxing effect on our nervous system.
Far infrared rays resonate with the water molecules in our body and break the hydrogen bonds, breaking up the so-called clusters (globular masses of water).
De-clustered water, and consequently blood too, increases its transport capacity, both in carrying nutrients to the cells and in helping to expel toxins.
This reactivates metabolic processes and restores cellular functions.
